Tanner Consulting, established in 1994 and led by Larry Tanner, with over 40 years of experience in engineering, architecture, and construction, backed by extensive education and a diverse professional background in the design and construction industry. The firm specializes in delivering independent engineering and architectural consulting services for both residential and commercial projects, with a strong emphasis on storm shelter safety and building performance. Its offerings include ICC-500 peer review, storm shelter design consultation, property condition assessment reporting, construction inspections for quality assurance, forensic investigations of structural failures, and evaluations of structures subjected to extreme wind and other loads. Tanner Consulting caters to public agencies, design professionals, contractors, insurers, and property owners, providing clear, objective analysis, comprehensive documentation, and defensible technical conclusions to enhance informed decision-making, ensure code compliance, and manage risk effectively.

Registered Professional Engineer in Texas / Licensed Architect in Texas, and Oklahoma. Graduate of Texas Tech University, 1971, with BS & MS degrees in Architectural Engineering.

Larry Tanner has dedicated his career to the fields of building design and construction. He has experience in both the private and public sectors, practicing architecture, engineering, and A/E forensics. As an owner and partner in several A/E firms, he has provided consulting services in A/E forensics for both defense and plaintiff cases, working as a private practitioner as well as with nationally recognized forensic firms.

He has served as the Director of Facility Planning at Texas Tech University, where he oversaw the design and construction of new and renovated facilities on a 600-acre core campus. Currently, he teaches structural engineering, land surveying, and construction materials in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Engineering Technology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Additionally, he manages the Debris Impact Test Facility at the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center and is a nationally recognized wind storm researcher, specializing in assessing the performance of buildings, manufactured housing (mobile homes), and shelters during severe storms. In 1994, he started Tanner Consulting to assist and investigate the "built environment.
